Arunachal Pradesh has one of the oldest histories in India with a large variety of historical monuments and unique historical places in India. Arunachal Pradesh is widely visited by numerous travelers from all over the world. The historical significance in Arunachal has resulted in increased tourism opportunities. These places are the backbone of the tourism industry of the state. Important historical places in Arunachal Pradesh include Bhalukpong, Talung Dzong, Dikang Dzong, Gyuto Tantric University, Jameri, Dimachung-Betali and the Lha-gyala Gonpa. Some of the most historical places which speaks about the history and culture of Arunachal Pradesh are the Ita Fort and Bhishmaknagar Fort.
Ita Fort:
Ita Fort is one of the main tourist attraction and one of the most important historical places in India, and the state Arunachal Pradesh. This fort was built under the rule of Ahom Dynasty and the construction dates back to as early as the 14th and 15th century. This fort is located in the middle of Papum Pare district of Itanagar. The fort is inspiring but highly irregular structure of the fort is said to be built with over 8 million bricks, 45 cubic meters of stone and is known to have been made by 4600 man-days. The place is not very construction friendly, which gives Ita Fort an even greater uniqueness. Ita fort has 3 entrances with gates located on the eastern, western and southern fronts. It is a pride and one of the most important historical places of Arunachal Pradesh. So the capital Itanagar also has been derived its name from the famous Ita Fort. ‘Ita’ (literally means ‘brick’ in Ahom dialect), and Ita Fort translates to Fort of Bricks.
The Buddhist Temple This is a new but beautiful yellow - roofed shrine. It rises from well-maintained grounds behind a stupo tree planted by His Holiness The Dalai Lama. The grounds of the temple offer a beautiful view of the Itanagar Town.
Bhismaknagar Fort:
Bhismaknagar Fort is one of the most admired archeological sites. Holy heritage destinations in Arunachal Pradesh are the Bhismaknagar Fort, which is broadly visited by several tourists every year.
